Some parts of Oklahoma could get in on some precipitation before a powerful storm system arrives over the weekend.
The National Weather Service said winds ahead of the system brought more warm, moist air into the state, just as a subtropical weather system moved northwestward out of the Gulf of Mexico on Thursday. Forecasters expected the severe weather potential with the subtropical system to be minimal, but the storm approaching from the west should pack a punch.
Possible severe weather could move into northwestern Oklahoma Saturday night and spread eastward across the rest of the state on Sunday, the weather service warned.
On Thursday, skies were mostly clear and temperatures were summer-like, ranging from 86 degrees in McAlester and Muskogee to 96 degrees in Guymon. The mercury peaked at 87 degrees in Bartlesville, Ponca City and Tulsa and hit 89 degrees in Guthrie, Oklahoma City and Stillwater.
Skies should be partly cloudy through Saturday, with a slight chance of storms in the Oklahoma Panhandle on Friday. Highs should reach the 80s and 90s and lows should range from the upper 50s in the Panhandle to 60s and 70s elsewhere.
Skies should be partly to mostly cloudy Saturday and Sunday with a chance of showers and thunderstorms both days. Highs should warm into the 80s and 90s on Saturday and cool into the 70s and 80s on Sunday. Lows should reach the 50s and 60s both nights.
Partly cloudy conditions should be the rule Monday and Tuesday, with a chance of showers and thunderstorms in the east on Monday and a slight chance in the southeast on Tuesday.
Temperatures should reach the 70s and 80s as highs both days. Lows Monday night should be cold in the west, ranging from the middle 30s in the Panhandle to the upper 60s in the east. Lows Tuesday night should range from the low 40s in the Panhandle to 50s and 60s elsewhere.
