A lawsuit filed against ORU on Tuesday in Tulsa County District Court is sending a ripple throughout the ORU campus in south Tulsa. Several students say they have their opinions, on both sides of the issues. But many did not want to on camera to share them.
News On 6 reporter Ashli Sims reports that the students who would talk to her say it was a normal day at Oral Roberts University on Tuesday. But those same students say there is some uneasiness in the student body. So much so, that the students who would talk asked that their indentities be obscured.
The lawsuit details allegations of financial mismanagement by the Roberts family, including claims that the Roberts used the university jet for personal trips including a senior trip for Richard Roberts’ daughter costing $30,000. In addition, the suit claims the Roberts used university and ministry funds to pay for $7,000 worth of cell phone bills, multiple home remodels, and clothing costs upwards of $50,000.
ORU students say they were told about the impending lawsuit at a mandatory meeting late Monday night.
The students say they were not really surprised by the accusations. However, they do not want the headlines from the lawsuit to deflect attention from all of the good work ORU does around the world.
