Group Wants To Make Home Renters Homeowners

Three Tulsa businesses are teaming up to help north Tulsans achieve the American dream of owning a home. News On 6 anchor Latoya Silmon reports on how they plan to make the dream of homeownership a reality. It's a piece of the American pie, but some say too many north Tulsa residents aren't getting their slice of the dream.

â€œThis community, for it to survive and for it to thrive, we need to go away from the rent to the own,â€ said Jack Henderson, Tulsa City Councilor.

Tulsa City Councilor Jack Henderson says a new partnership is the key to opening the doors to homeownership.

â€œThat's an excellent opportunity and I think this is the start of something big, and excited that it's happening,â€ Henderson said.

Barnes Realty is teaming up with builder McGee Enterprise Incorporated and First Mortgage Company to encourage and educate north Tulsans about homeownership.

"I believe homeownership creates wealth for a family, and if you're a homeowner youâ€™re going to care about your property, the community and the schools your family goes too,â€ Linda Wright of First Mortgage Company said. â€œSo it's just a far reaching aspect when someone becomes a homeowner."

To get there they say it's going to take time and collaboration, but this group says it's up for the challenge.

â€œThat's what it's all about, it's no one man's show,â€ Henderson said.
