OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) -- A task force studying safety issues on college campuses in Oklahoma is developing some recommendations. The Campus Life and Safety & Security Task Force was formed after the massacre at Virginia Tech and is to send its report to Governor Brad Henry and state lawmakers in January.
Recommendations drafted so far include more and better-trained counselors on campuses and training campus police to deal with people who have mental illnesses. The task force is also suggesting a system of notifying students and employees by phone, e-mail or text message in case of an emergency on campus.
Members of the task force say they hope to formalize the recommendations at its next meeting in December.
