The U.S. Attorney Office for the Northern District of Oklahoma was recognized Tuesday for its investigation and prosecution of a violent street gang in the city of Tulsa. The investigation from 2003 to mid-2004 targeted the leadership of the 107 Hoover Crips gang in Tulsa.

U.S Attorney David O’Meilia says a war between the 107 Hoover Crips gang and the Neighborhood Crips gang was responsible for a string of 18 murders. O’Meilia says a task force, which included the FBI, DEA, ICE, ATF, Tulsa Police, Tulsa County Sheriff’s Office, culminated in a 147-count indictment charging 14 defendants.

Federal officials say the Tulsa investigation was one of best street crime suppression efforts in the nation.
