OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) -- Former Governor and Senator Henry Bellmon is recovering from a minor stroke he suffered last week. Bellmon's wife says the 85-year-old Bellmon was in Enid to visit one of his daughters last Wednesday when he awoke from a nap and sensed a problem.

He went to a doctor in Enid who says he had suffered a mini-stroke.

Bellmon was hospitalized in Enid until later in the week and then sent home to Billings where his farm is.

Bellmon became Oklahoma's first Republican governor and served his first term from 1963 to 1967. He was elected a second time in 1986 and served from 1987 to 1991.

Bellmon was elected to the U.S. Senate in 1968 and re-elected in 1974.

In 2004 he had heart bypass surgery.
