BARTLESVILLE, Okla. (AP) _ An exhibit about Oklahoma's oil industry that will include a new replica of Oklahoma's first commercial oil well have been unveiled in Bartlesville.
The proposed Discovery I Park at the site of the Nellie Johnstone No. 1 well will also include a walkthrough display chronicling the development of the state's petroleum industry.
Plans for the exhibit were made public Friday when artist's renderings of the complex were revealed.
The Nellie Johnstone No. 1 well blew in as a gusher on April 15, 1897. It produced for 51 years, yielding more than 100,000 barrels of oil. The well was plugged and donated to the city in 1948.
