Mobile Car Wash

We'd all love a clean car, but often we just don't have the time. But what if you never had to think about it? What if someone else did the thinking and the washing for you? The News On 6’s Rick Wells reports a Tulsa man has turned taking care of people who don't have time into a successful business.

Rudy Larson has a mobile car wash and detailing business. He comes to where the dirty car is, kind of like a lawn mowing service.

"I set it up the exact same way," said Rudy Larson of Finishing Touch Inc.

Larson says he has about 80 regular customers, some get washes once a week sometimes twice, some get a full detail, some something less. He's been a mobile car detailer for about six years, and he started out doing this all by himself.

"Now I have three trucks that run six days a week," said Larson.

Each truck is self contained. He doesn't need water, electricity, or special cleaners because he brings it with him.

"This one's getting inside and out, it's our mini detail," Larson said.

Every tire gets a milk moustache to make it shine, the floor mats get shampooed and everything gets cleaned and shined. Obviously it's nothing you couldn't do for yourself, but many people don't have the time.

"If you're busy and don't have time that's where we come in," said Larson.

The closer it gets to the weekend the busier he gets.

“It'll probably be midmorning if we could do something tomorrow," Larson said.

Larson says it usually takes him about 45 minutes to detail a car. He says he loves the work, and most of all he's his own boss.

So who washes his car? He does.

"On top of everybody else, I've got to do my own, but I love it, I'm never bored," he said.

When he's finished he packs up his gear and heads for the next customer car, leaving nothing behind but a clean car and a wet spot on the driveway.
