TRENTON, N.J. (AP) _ New Jersey Gov. Jon S. Corzine will undergo additional surgery on the leg that he broke last spring in a car crash that nearly killed him.
The surgery is scheduled for Monday at Cooper University Hospital in Camden, where Corzine was treated following the April 12 crash on the Garden State Parkway.
Corzine broke 15 bones in the accident, including his left leg, which was broken in two places. He was riding unbuckled in the front passenger seat when his SUV, driven by a state trooper at 91 mph, was clipped by a truck and slammed into a guard rail near Atlantic City.
In the days after the accident, doctors inserted a rod into the leg and operated on it three times.
Corzine spokeswoman Lilo Stainton has said the surgery would remove excess bone growth.
The surgery will require Corzine to again transfer power to Senate President Richard J. Codey for at least a day, Stainton said.
