LAWTON, Okla. (AP) -- More than 100 soldiers from a Fort Sill-based unit are back home after a one-year deployment in Iraq. The second battery from 1st Battalion, 14th Field Artillery were celebrated Saturday during a homecoming ceremony at Fort Sill.
Lt. Col. Buhlig commended the leaders of the battery who began preparing the soldiers for the deployment about 17 months ago. The unit spent several weeks training for the mission and left one year ago.
The troops in the battery are a rocket artillery organization that were retrained for a target acquisition mission.
Buhlig says about 100 more soldiers with another battery of the battalion deployed to Iraq over the weekend. A third battery will return home next month.
