NORTHWOOD, N.D. (AP) _ Emergency operations spokesman Kevin Dean says there was an ``eerie silence'' in Northwood overnight.
He says the quiet was broken only by the occasional sound of an emergency generator.
The northeastern North Dakota town was devastated by a tornado Sunday night. Dean says an 8:00 curfew last night kept traffic to a minimum -- and there were no problems.
This morning -- people involved with cleanup are being directed by National Guard soldiers.
The ranks of volunteers will be bolstered by people and equipment that left Fargo in a convoy earlier this morning. The group includes student-athletes from Mayville State.
Officials say nearly every building in Northwood had some damage from the mile-wide tornado that packed winds of more than 150 miles per hour. It killed one man who lived in a mobile home park and left 18 people hurt.
