BRISTOW, Okla. (AP) -- A woman convicted of allowing her 2-year-old daughter to be abused before the girl's death says she thinks there is a conspiracy against her. Raye Dawn Smith makes the comment in a presentencing report to the judge in the case.
Smith was convicted of enabling child abuse of her daughter Kelsey Smith-Briggs and the jury is recommending Smith be sentenced to 27 years in prison.
Prosecutors said during trial that Smith's husband Michael Porter sexually abused and eventually killed Kelsey and Smith did nothing to stop it. Porter is serving 30-years in prison after pleading guilty to enabling child abuse.
Smith says in the report she didn't allow the abuse and would've left Porter if she suspected he was hurting Kelsey.
Kelsey's paternal grandmother Kathie Briggs is asking the judge to sentence Smith to all 27 years in prison.
