SEATTLE (AP) _ A city councilman in Seattle says he'll offer an ordinance to require the Seattle SuperSonics fulfill their contract at KeyArena and to prohibit the team from buying out the lease.
The Sonics are owned by an Oklahoma City group headed by Clay Bennett. Bennett has said the Sonics will be moved unless a plan for a new arena is in place by October 31st.
Seattle Councilman Richard McIver says he wants to make it clear the council doesn't want the owners buying out their contract. McIver says he'll introduce the proposal at the next council meeting on September 4th.
The lease on KeyArena expires in September 2010.
