BROKEN ARROW, Okla. (AP) -- A 4-year-old boy was electrocuted when the pool he was in collapsed and the water carried him into an electric fence, police said.
Jonathan Koone died Sunday of electrocution, said Kevin Rowland, chief investigator for the state medical examiner.
He was swimming in a 2-foot high, soft-sided pool, said Broken Arrow police Maj. Mark Irwin. A section of the pool collapsed, submerging the boy into the water, which threw him into an electric fence.
The boy was flown to a Tulsa hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Irwin said police won't file complaints in the death because it appears to be an accident. The state Department of Human Services is also investigating.
The electric fence was used to keep a pet Labrador retriever out of the pool, Irwin said. It would not injure the dog if it was dry, he said.
Rowland said low-voltage deaths are more common than more powerful electrocutions. Because Jonathan was wet, his body acted as a conductor for the electricity.
