OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) _ The U.S. team that will compete for the President's Cup will have a distinct Oklahoma flavor.

Former Oklahoma State golfer Hunter Mahan has been chosen by team captain Jack Nicklaus with an at-large pick and he joins former Cowboys Scott Verplank and Charles Howell the third on the team.

Verplank and Howell earned spots on the team based on a point system. Nicklaus says he called and invited Mahan to play with the group that will take on a team of international golfers.

Other U.S. players on the 12-member team include Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson while the international team includes Ernie Els, Vijay Singh and Retief Goosen.

The President's Cup is sponsored by the PGA and is played every other year during years in which the Ryder Cup isn't played.

This year's event will be September 27th through 30th at The Royal Montreal Golf Club in Quebec, Canada.
