HOBART, Okla. (AP) -- A grand jury in Kiowa County will investigate allegations that an 8-year-old girl was sexually abused for more than five years and state and local authorities did nothing to stop it.
The grandmother of the girl says reports were made to the state Department of Human Services, the district attorney, the State Bureau of Investigation, a district judge the county sheriff and to police in Hobart but no one stopped the abuse.
The grandmother then circulated a petition calling for a grand jury investigation and the jury will convene September 10th.
Kiowa County District Attorney John Wampler says both his office and the office of District Attorney Mitch Sperry of Ardmore investigated the allegations and declined to file charges.
Wampler says he welcomes a grand jury to review the case and decide what should or should not be done.
