The 89th PGA championship has come and gone at Southern Hills Country Club. Besides the economic impact that is being felt by the visitors, there's also a more tangible benefit. The Chicago company that catered the event is donating all of its leftover food to the Community Food Bank of Eastern Oklahoma. They picked up their first truckload Monday morning and two more are on the way. The food bank estimates it will be about 4,000 pounds of food. That will make more than 3,000 meals which will be split among the 440 partner programs the food bank supplies.
"To us, it means that we're going to be able to feed some really good food to some people who really need it. Also, it's saving some food from going into the trash. You know, if we can save that kind of food and put it to a good cause, it's all worth it,†said Cindy Stevens with the Community Food Bank.
The PGA also donated food to the Community Food Bank after the U.S. Open in 2001.
