STILLWATER, Okla. (AP) -- Student organizers said Friday that Orange Peel, an annual event which had become an Oklahoma State University tradition, will not take place in 2007.
Organizers said that their inability to lure a top-level music headliner doomed their efforts to put together the event, which had been scheduled for September 28.
"We have done everything in our power to find artists that fit within our budget and could guarantee the level of ticket sales necessary to make Orange Peel a success," said event director Josh Neil.
OSU students had been told that this year's Orange Peel would have to turn a profit to continue in future years. The event, first held in 1996, had struggled to break even in recent years.
Neil said organizers will now focus on putting together an Orange Peel show for 2008.
