MINNEAPOLIS (AP) -- It isn't clear whether former Oklahoma running back Adrian Peterson will play in Minnesota's preseason opener tonight against St. Louis.

Peterson is recovering from a hip pointer but he told a Minneapolis newspaper he's been told he will play when the Vikings host the Rams in Minneapolis.

But Vikings coach Brad Childress says whether Peterson plays will be a game-time decision.

Peterson is the Vikings' top draft pick.
