CLINTON, Okla. (AP) -- A month long investigation culminated in the arrests of 29 people accused of selling illegal drugs to undercover narcotics officers. Children gathered in the streets of Clinton Thursday and watched as mothers, fathers, aunts and uncles were escorted to waiting police vans in handcuffs.
On other streets, elderly couples stood on porches and watched in awe as armed police and barking dogs surrounded their neighbors' homes.
Agents from the Oklahoma Bureau of Narcotics arranged enough drug buys with local dealers to obtain 42 arrest warrants, mostly in a predominantly black neighborhood.
Darrell Weaver, director of OBN, said it takes more than a few arrests to root out a drug problem that has established itself in a community.
