NEW YORK (AP) _ As the New York metro area recovers from the storms that paralyzed transportation, spawned a tornado and caused at least one death -- forecasters say there could be more rough weather tonight.
National Weather Service meteorologist Adrienne Leptich says there's ``the potential'' for a new round of heavy thunderstorms in the metro area tonight or tomorrow morning. She says it's impossible so far to be certain where the storms might strike, or how severe they might be.
The weather service says a tropical air mass dumped an extraordinary amount of rain in a short period yesterday. Between 5 a.m. and 8 a.m., 2.5 inches of rain fell on Central Park and almost 3.5 on Kennedy International Airport.
Leptich says at one point, more than 1.5 inches fell within an hour in Central Park.
