TULSA, Okla. (AP) -- Jim Furyk has been on a roller coaster since arriving at Tulsa's Southern Hills for the PGA Championship.
A back injury caused him to withdraw from the Bridgestone Invitational. But Furyk says he woke up this morning less stiff than he had been the day before.
That means the world's No. 2 player is fit enough to play when competition kicks off Thursday.
Furyk's been considered one of the favorites because of his accuracy, shotmaking skills and a course that doesn't require power off the tee. Now he's happy to be playing, even though he's rusty and still not feeling his best.
He played nine holes for the third straight day today, then went to the range to hit a bucket of balls before stopping halfway through because he felt fatigue set in.
