PGA parking is a big deal as thousands of golf fans are in town for the championship. There are plenty of places all over Tulsa where people can park and catch a shuttle to Southern Hills Country Club. News On 6 anchor Craig Day went to one of the busiest spots in town where they're working hard to make sure fans have a good time and a place to park. He reports professional golf is an individual sport, but to put on a pro golfing event, it takes a team effort.
Andrew Dozier and his brother Matt Dozier are both working to help people find a place to park. With more than 20,000 fans showing up on the third day of the PGA championship week, it's a challenge.
"Today I showed up, and it's been car after car since I got here,†said Andrew Dozier.
Shuttling all those fans where they need to go is a big challenge. The Mabee Center at ORU was 75% full by 9 a.m.
"We were just hammered from 6 a.m. to 9 a.m. this morning, but all my guys did a phenomenal job,†said Mabee Center manager Tony Winters.
Parking crews sent drivers over to the Cityplex Towers nearby. More shuttle buses were also called in to get people to the PGA event.
Every few minutes, another one of the shuttle buses pulls up. They can each hold about 50 people. So, it doesn't take long for golf fans to load up and head over to Southern Hills to see some of the best golfers in the world.
"We are thinking that at the absolute height, the longest lines today, we're probably looking at 12 to 15 minutes in line. The lines are constantly moving,†Winters said.
With 40 shuttle buses and 22,000 parking spaces, fans shouldn't have much trouble getting to and from Southern Hills and all the fun.
It's recommended that people park and use the shuttle to get to Southern Hills. The shuttle rides take only about five minutes.
