SALLISAW, Okla. (AP) -- The superintendent of Marble City Public Schools is accused of embezzling $100,000 from the school district.

Larry Duane Couch of Vian was charged yesterday in Sequoyah County District Court with one felony count of embezzling public money and was ordered to surrender Monday.

A telephone message left for Couch was not returned.

The missing money was discovered during an ongoing audit by the state auditor and inspector's office.

A spokeswoman for the state auditor's office says authorities believe the money was used to purchase land. Spokeswoman Terri Watkins says the audit is ongoing.
