MINNEAPOLIS (AP) _ The Minnesota Timberwolves finalized their buyout of Troy Hudson's contract on Friday.

The Timberwolves requested waivers on the point guard, a 10-year veteran whose career has been disrupted by ankle injuries. Hudson's agent, Bill Neff, said earlier in the week the team will pay Hudson just under $6 million this season and just over $6.3 million next season. That's about 80 percent of what Hudson was still owed from the contract he signed in August 2004.

``This decision is in the best interest of both the organization and Troy,'' Timberwolves vice president of basketball operations Kevin McHale said in a statement released by the team. ``Looking at our roster and what would have been Troy's role on the Timberwolves, this was the most amicable way to move forward for both parties. We wish Troy the best in the future.''

Minnesota has 16 players on the roster, after trading All-Star Kevin Garnett to the Boston Celtics for five players and two draft picks.

After first getting hurt in an exhibition game in October 2003, Hudson was slowed by a bad ankle over the next three seasons. He was finally healthy last season, but was stuck behind Mike James and Randy Foye and played in only 34 games.
