OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) _ Remington Park officials say that 76 horses have been entered for the nine races the track has scheduled for Thursday on the opening night of its thoroughbred racing meet.
The purses for the opening night program total $187,300.
Among the trainers who will have stables at the track during the 69-day meet are Steve Asmussen, the nation's leading trainer with 283 wins through July 30th. It's the first time Asmussen has had a stable at Remington Park since the mid-1990s.
Remington Park's defending training champion, Donnie Von Hemel of Piedmont, will saddle five horses Thursday night.
Cliff Berry, the track's all-time leading jockey, will try to defend his riding crown against a group that includes reigning Oaklawn Park riding champion Luis Quinonez, who hasn't ridden a season at Remington Park since 2002.
The jockey colony also will include Ramsey Zimmerman, who won the riding title during Lone Star Park's just-completed season, and Tim Doocy, who has won multiple titles at Remington Park.
