GUTHRIE, Okla. (AP) _ Oklahoma Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts are observing the birthday of the worldwide movement. Scouts from across the state gathered in Guthrie to mark the milestone with camping, candle making, games, fellowship and more.

Robert Baden-Powell began the worldwide scout movement in England 100 years ago today. Baden-Powell's scouts camped out for the first time three years before the formation of Boy Scouts of America and nine years before the Girl Scouts of the U.S.A. was formed.

Wednesday, scouts across the globe celebrated with Scouting Sunrise.

Doug Cook, Scouting Sunrise's coordinator in Oklahoma, says scout leaders chose Guthrie for Scouting Sunrise because the choice dovetails with the city's status as Oklahoma's first capital.
