OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) -- A former Cushing resident says he's shocked to be sharing his name with a state prison inmate. David Wiggs says his former brother-in-law, Lou Swift, stole his identity and is serving time at the Oklahoma State Reformatory under the name David L. Wiggs. The prisoner who goes by the name Wiggs even uses Wiggs' birthdate.
Somehow, Wiggs says, Swift got past the roadblocks, including fingerprinting and a national background check.
A spokesman for the Oklahoma Corrections Department says Wiggs will have to prove that the prisoner is falsely using his name. The court of conviction then notifies corrections officials to change records.
Wiggs, who now lives in Colorado, says the identity theft began in 2001.
