KINGISHER, Okla. (AP) -- More than two inches of rain fell on the central Oklahoma town of Kingfisher Monday afternoon, causing flash flooding that trapped motorists and forced the closure of several roads.
Kingfisher County Emergency Management Director Steve Loftis says portions of both Highway 81 and Highway 33 leading out of Kingfisher were closed Monday afternoon because of high water.
Several cars were at least partially submerged, and city and state workers were busy setting up road blocks to keep drivers from driving down flooded streets.
The National Weather Service issued a flash flood warning for Kingfisher County this afternoon because of the heavy thunderstorm that pounded the area. The city of Dover also was included in the warning.
