OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) -- Federal investigators say a pilot killed in a July 2006 plane crash in Owasso mistook a city street for the airport's runway.

Dr. William "Ronnie" Barnes died in the crash and his 11-year-old grandson Beau Hall was seriously burned and had several broken bones.

A report from the National Transportation Board today says Barnes mistakenly landed on a 16-hundred-foot long residential street. The street is about four thousand feet east of the 2,600-foot long airport runway.

Both the street and the runway run north-south and both had orange windsocks.

After Barnes landed on the street he taxied to the end of the road then turned the plane around and tried to take off but the left wing got caught in utility wires and flipped nose first into the ground then caught fire.
