WASHINGTON (AP) _ Two Senate office buildings were briefly evacuated Wednesday because of the smell of smoke. They were reopened a few minutes later.

One law enforcement official said an elevator belt may have malfunctioned and caused the smoke.

Fire officials were called to the Dirksen and Hart buildings.
