A sixth grader in Skiatook is happy to have her horse back after it was stolen for the second time. It wasn't just a horse thief that took it, it was a ring of thieves according to the Sheriff's office. The News On 6’s Emory Bryan reports some of the stolen goods were found at pawn shops, the horse was found in South Tulsa.
Rose Bodine is back on horseback and happy to be there. Her horse had been missing for a month.
"We came over here and that gate was cut in two places," said horse owner Rose Bodine.
Rose's horse, named Sugar Foot, was stolen from their pasture in Skiatook. The Tulsa County Sheriff's Office found him while investigating burglaries of saddles and other equipment used with horses.
"After executing the search warrant we looked and there were four horses in the back yard," said Jim Wolfe with the Tulsa County Sheriff’s Office.
The other horses might not be stolen, they're still checking, but Sugar Foot stood out and the Bodine's recognized him right away.
"The color of his eyes, one is blue and his feet, one is brown and the others are white," she said.
Sugar Foot was stolen once before from a different pasture, and that time he was missing for three months. Rose didn't think they would get him back this time.
Investigators say they have some suspects in the case and expect to make several arrests. They've recovered quite a bit of stolen property and say they're finding more every day. And they're happy to reunite owners with what was taken from them.
"Looked it over, horse whinnied, horse was found," Wolfe said.
When the Bodine's got back home with Sugar Foot they say he seemed to know he was finally safe.
"Buffed all up and started running, I could tell he was happy he was home," Rose’s mother Stella Bodine said.
The horse wasn't hurt while he was missing. Rose says he had lost some weight and had some bug bites, but he's going to be fine.
