OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) -- Federal officials said Monday that ten storm-damaged Oklahoma counties are eligible to receive federal assistance for public infrastructure repairs and other costs, the governor's office said.
Canadian, Cotton, Grady, Grant, Hughes, Logan, McClain, McIntosh, Pawnee and Tillman counties all have been approved to receive public assistance under a presidential disaster declaration issued June 7. The declaration covers storms that occurred May 4-11.
Under a disaster declaration for public assistance, local governments are eligible to receive aid for repairs of public infrastructure and other costs incurred in responding to the storms.
Gov. Brad Henry also has requested public assistance for counties damaged in storms later in May, June and July, but federal authorities have not yet ruled on those requests, Henry said.
"The latest federal aid will be a great help to the counties in question and is very much appreciated," Henry said. "It's important to remember we need additional assistance in other areas that were hard hit by later storms and flooding, and we will keep pushing until we get the help Oklahomans need."
