Prior to the past week, temperatures have remained relatively cool compared to summers past. Out of the previous 19 days, temperatures have stayed below 90 for afternoon highs for 8 days. Tulsa International Airport has only recorded one temperature above 95 so far this month. A 96 degree reading was reached July 16th. The average high temperature so far in July has been 90 degrees. The normal average high is 94.
A glance in history reveals several summers with multiple 100 degree days. 1980 recorded 58 days of 100 degrees or better and 1954 revealed 46 days of temperatures at or above 100. Both 1956 and 1978 experienced 38 days of high temperatures at or over 100.
While the very hot temperatures have yet to be experienced this summer, warmer readings will still be possible later this month and early August.
