A Tulsa woman says when misfortune struck, she was quick to think the worst of people, but the News On 6’s Ashli Sims reports the event that devastated her brought out the best in someone else.
Linda Logsdon says she stopped at the park before heading to the bank. She had an envelope full of cash to deposit, so she kept her bag close.
"I got all the way over to the bank and reached into my purse, and it wasn't there,†said Logsdon.
More than $1,600 in cash, not in her purse, not in her car and not at the park.
"I was really almost in tears,†Logsdon.
She called the park, but the workers hadn't seen the envelope full of cash either.
"I thought it was over,†she said. “I thought it's gone, there's no way. And I actually, I'm ashamed to admit, I thought someone had stolen it."
Linda Logsdon says even after she'd given up hope of ever finding the money. The guys at the park were still searching for her, and they found it.
"It was just laying in the back of the pickup,†said park supervisor Danny Hesterlee.
Hesterlee speculates the envelope fell out of Logsdon's bag, and then was tossed into a truck as trash.
"And then I called my boss, and I said you want to make a woman happy?" said Hesterlee.
Ecstatic is more like it.
"He didn't touch a thing,†Logsdon said.
"Yes, I did,†said Hesterlee. “I opened it up and looked.â€
"He might have looked inside it, but it was, I mean, pretty much everything was exactly as I left it in the envelope,†Hesterlee said.
Linda Logsdon says Hesterlee wouldn't accept a reward, but he did take a sweet treat and a handshake. Logsdon says she's ashamed that it was easy for her to think that someone stole the money, but hard for her to believe someone would return every last cent. She says this is proof there are still good people in the world.
