EDEN PRAIRIE, Minn. (AP) -- Minnesota Vikings coach Brad Childress says he expects Adrian Peterson will sign with the NFL team in time for training camp.

The seventh overall draft pick and explosive running back from Oklahoma was chosen to inject some life into an offense that showed little of it during a 6-10 finish last season, the first with Childress in charge.

Peterson is expected to share time in the Minnesota backfield with Chester Taylor, a 1,200-yard rusher in 2006.

The Vikings are required to report to training camp July 25th, and their first practice is July 27th, leaving plenty of time to complete a deal with Peterson.

Chicago and San Francisco are the only NFL teams who have signed their first-rounders, and no second-round picks are under contract.
