Next month professional golfers will tee off in Tulsa. But News On 6 anchor Latoya Silmon reports 2,600 volunteers have to get in the game before the golfers ever get on the green.
Southern Hills Country Club will test the best golfers around, but to tee off thousands of volunteers have to be on the job.
“We have a wide range of volunteers committees, transportation, contestant evacuation, caddys, will call, all sorts of things,†PGA Championship volunteer Matti Dubberstein said.
And the staff only has three weeks to get them ready. First comes the essentials.
“We're distributing all the shirts, the hats, the shorts, the parking passes, and all the credentials,†said volunteer James Mourey.
And there's a lot of them, 2,600 volunteers are on tap for this years event. There are also 100 PGA staff members, some workers have been onsite two years. It's a big day for golfers, and for Tulsa.
“We've got about 2,600 volunteers that are going to help us make this a great championship,†said Dubberstein.
Organizers don’t need anymore volunteers, but they say there's still a chance to see stars like Tiger Woods in person. All you have to do is buy tickets. For tickets to the PGA Championship at Southern Hills call 1-800-PGA-GOLF, or click here.
