FORT SILL, Okla. (AP) -- There's a new commander in place for a Fort Sill-based brigade that trains and mentors U.S. Army soldiers who are mobilizing to fight in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Colonel Steven J. Smith is the new commander of the 479th Field Artillery Brigade, replacing Colonel Anthony F. Daskevich the Second, who spent two years in the post.

Smith, a New Jersey native, comes to Fort Sill from Fort Bragg in North Carolina, where he had been the commander of the Army's 18th Airborne Corps since March 2006.

The change-of-command ceremony was held Thursday.
