COFFEYVILLE, Kan. (AP) -- Authorities have identified a man found dead in a Coffeyville, Kansas motel room hit by flooding nearly 2 weeks ago. Coffeyville Police said Thursday that the body of 55-year-old Junior Denning of Canton, Illinois, was found July 5 in Room 21 at the Budget Inn by search teams going door-to-door looking for victims.
An autopsy found that Denning died from asphyxiation by drowning.
Coffeyville Police Commander Mike Brown said Denning was twice told he should evacuate the motel as floodwaters approached, but on both occasions he refused to leave.
