NEW YORK (AP) _ The New York Mets have cut 48-year-old Julio Franco. In 50-at bats this season he is hitting only .200 with one home run and eight runs batted in.

Franco was designated for assignment, which means the Mets have ten days to trade him, release him or send him to the minors.

Franco is a three-time All-Star who won the 1991 batting title while playing for Texas.
