MASON, Ohio (AP) _ NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series driver Aaron Fike and his fiancee were released Tuesday after spending the weekend in the Warren County jail on drug charges, Fike's attorney said.
Fike, 24, and Cassandra Davidson, 21, both of Cornelius, N.C., were arrested Saturday in the parking lot of Kings Island amusement park north of Cincinnati after security officers observed suspicious activity in Fike's sport utility vehicle and found syringes and a brown substance believed to be heroin, police said.
Both were charged with drug abuse, a felony, and possession of drug paraphernalia, a misdemeanor. They had their initial court appearance Tuesday in Mason Municipal Court before Chief Magistrate Eddie Lawson.
Fike entered a not guilty plea to the misdemeanor charge, and agreed to undergo drug and alcohol evaluation as a condition of his release, his attorney, Charlie Rittgers, said.
Trial on the misdemeanor charge was scheduled for Aug. 28, and a preliminary hearing on the felony charge was set for July 19, according to the court's Web site, which list the same court dates for Davidson.
Rittgers said Davidson's parents were arranging for an attorney to represent her.
Fike drives the No. 1 Toyota Tundra for Red Horse Racing in the Craftsman Truck Series and ranked eighth in the point standings this week.
