It's a first for Tulsa Little League, an all girl baseball team. Girls have played baseball before, but never on an all girl team, until this year. The News On 6’s Rick Wells reports the girls are competitive, they're enthusiastic, but it's unclear who's having more fun, the dads or their daughters.
The Lady Cougars are a coach pitch team of 6 and 7-year-olds from Grissom Elementary. The primary team color is pink. Everywhere you look players, coaches and fans, all in pink.
“We gotta look the part too,†said head coach Mike Hazel. “They all seem to enjoy it.
Almost every player’s father is involved in some way.
"It's been a lot of fun,†Hazel said. “There's more catch being played."
Many of the dads played baseball when they were young, and this gives them a chance to teach their daughters the game, and it's working.
"Watching them learn the game and have fun,†said coach Larry Dormont.
The Riverdogs took control of the game early, with lots of timely hits and aggressive base running.
The primary objective is fun, so no matter how it's going there's always encouragement.
Encouragement works and cheerleading from the dugout got a late inning rally going, but in the end, it wasn't enough. The cougars didn't win, but you can’t imagine anyone having more fun.
The Lady Cougars have about a half-dozen games left this season. They play at LaFortune Park field #5.
