NORMAN, Okla. (AP) -- Contruction will start this fall on an $8.4 million indoor tennis facility at the University of Oklahoma, the university has announced.

University regents approved funding for the project during their meeting last Wednesday. The 55,000-square-foot facility will include six air-conditioned courts and about 375 chair-back seats.

It will be located east of the outdoor courts at OU's Headington Family Tennis Center and is scheduled for completion by December 2008.

The facility will be named after Gregg Wadley of Oklahoma City,
who provided the lead financial gift for the project.

Other large gifts to the project include $1.5 million from Dallas businessman and former OU tennis player Tim Headington and $1 million from the Sarkeys Foundation.

"Our record demonstrates our continued dedication to a broad-based intercollegiate athletics program," OU athletic director Joe Castiglione said in a statement. "This facility will provide a significant asset in the development of OU tennis programs and in turn, help make our entire department more successful."
