SULPHUR, Okla. (AP) -- Officials with a Kansas medical group say plans are underway for a new 50,000 square-foot hospital to be built in Sulphur.

Health Facilities Group say the new hospital will be built immediately behind the existing Arbuckle Memorial Hospital.

Health Facilities spokesman Rick Kaufman says his company has been hired to initiate design and planning phases for the facility.

Construction is scheduled to begin at the end of the year.

The new facility will feature a dedicated emergency department with two large trauma suites, seven examination rooms and 25 private rooms for patients.

It also will include a surgery department, laboratory, radiology, a specialty clinic and outpatient service areas.
