AUBURN HILLS, Michigan (AP) _ Swin Cash had 18 points and 13 rebounds, and Deanna Nolan scored seven points in a third-quarter burst, leading the Detroit Shock to a 77-74 victory over the Connecticut Sun on Wednesday.
Nolan finished with 17 points for WNBA leaders Detroit, who improved to 11-2 despite missing All-Star forward Cheryl Ford (knee). Plenette Pierson added 15 points, and Shannon Johnson finished with 12.
Asjha Jones scored 16 and Margo Dydek had 12 for Conneticut (5-10). Katie Douglas finished with just nine points, seven below her average. Nykesha Sales sat out due to a sprained ankle.
Connecticut led for most of the first three quarters, but Detroit's defense then took over. The Shock forced consecutive shot-clock violations as part of a 16-2 run that gave them a 57-49 lead.
Sparks 74, Monarchs 64
At Los Angeles, Marta Fernandez scored a career-high 26 points in Los Angeles' win against visiting Sacramento.
Christi Thomas added 15 points and 11 rebounds for the Sparks (7-6), who had lost four of their previous five. Jessica Moore scored a season-high 10 points.
Nicole Powell had 14 points and 10 rebounds for Sacramento (10-5), who lost for only the second time in seven games. Rebekkah Brunson added 12 points.
An 11-0 run saw Sacramento close within five points with 2:16 to play, but Los Angeles held on.
