OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) -- The number of power outages across Oklahoma due to the ice storm are under 170,000. Oklahoma Gas and Electric has about 100,000 customers without electricity, and Public Service Company of Oklahoma reported 59,000 without light or heat Saturday evening. Fifty-seven-thousand of those PSO customers are in the Tulsa area.
Forty-five hundred Verdigris Valley Electric customers were still without power Saturday morning. Most of the outages impacting VVEC are near the Prue, Sand Springs and Skiatook substations, which are operated by GRDA and KAMO. Northeast Electric Co-op is working to get 4,000 customers turned on. There were still 1,500 Indian Electric customers without electricity. And East Central Electric Co-op in Okmulgee has about 600 customers without power.
Linemen and tree-cutting crews have been working furiously to restore electricity to customers that numbered over 600,000 at one point.
