The state legislature and private donors pledged $20 million to build a 50,000 square foot OU-Tulsa specialty clinic. North Tulsa city leaders are calling it a gift of health this holiday season. Thanks to a big donation, Tulsans with unique medical needs will soon have a new clinic where they can receive specialized care.

Research shows the health of some residents may depend on where they live. Doctors say people in North, East and West Tulsa have access to fewer doctors and die sooner than residents in midtown or south Tulsa.

"We'll measure our success by noting that it doesn't matter where you live,” said OU President David Boren. “Every single person will have an equal opportunity for quality medical care and a life expectancy and a quality of life that's our birth right as Americans.”

The clinic will also help train high school students interested in health professions.
