BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) - LSU has granted officials from the University of Michigan permission to meet with Les Miles about the Wolverines head football coaching vacancy. An LSU spokesman says athletic director Skip Bertman granted the request on condition that Michigan waits until after Saturday's Southeastern Conference championship game before starting negotiations.
Bertman and LSU chancellor Sean O'Keefe plan to meet with the former Oklahoma State head coach next week to discuss his contract.
Miles is in his third season as LSU's coach. The fifth-ranked Tigers are 10-and-2 this season and will face Tennessee on Saturday in Atlanta for the SEC title. Miles played for legendary coach Bo Schembechler at Michigan and was a Wolverines assistant coach from 1980 to 1982.
Michigan coach Lloyd Carr announced his retirement last week.
