McALESTER, Okla. (AP) -- Even Oklahomans serving time behind bars had a chance to enjoy a little Thanksgiving cheer. Staff and inmate crews at the Oklahoma State Penitentiary in McAlester started working Tuesday to prepare 1,500 Thanksgiving meals.
Food Manager Bob Compton says the Thanksgiving dinner started with 1,600 pounds of roasted turkey, followed by 860 pounds of cornbread dressing and 80 gallons of giblet gravy.
Also included in the meal at the state's maximum-security facility were 24 gallons of cranberry sauce, 80 gallons of green beans and 500 pounds of mashed potatoes.
Cooks also prepared 3,200 dinner rolls and 1,500 servings of chocolate cake and pumpkin pie.
