A large part of Thanksgiving is the meal. No doubt many of us are probably still recovering from Thursday’s feast, but some Tulsans don't have that luxury. News On 6 anchor Latoya Silmon reports Search and Rescue Outreach Ministries is teaming up with local churches to feed the hungry and homeless.
Dinner started at 6 p.m. Friday. One hundred volunteers were at 5th and Denver to dish up turkey and all the fixings. They made a lot of food. Some 300 to 400 people were expected to stop by for the warm meal. Search and Rescue Outreach Ministries teamed up with five local churches to cook up the feast. But, Search and Rescue isn't just doing this for Thanksgiving. The organization provides a feed every Friday night in Tulsa. Its director, Jerred Kubalek, was once homeless himself so he knows exactly what many of his diners are going through.
"Basically God grabbed a hold of me, and ever since then, I've had a heart to do this. I've been doing this for four years and since I've been down here in the streets, I've seen a lot of people being broke free from the bonds of captivity,†said Jerred Kubelek of Search and Rescue Outreach Ministries.
